Valves are lanceolate with convex margins and subrostrate ends. Striae are slightly radiate throughout the valve, parallel or slightly convergent at the apices, 27-31 in 10 μm. The raphe is absent on one valve. The raphe valve has a narrowly lanceolate axial area and rounded central area expanded to the valve margin on one or both sides. The raphe is almost straight; externally it lies in a shallow furrow. Externally the raphe slits gradually expand towards the center of the valve. The axial area of the rapheless valve is lanceolate and covered by siliceous thickenings.
