Description
Valves lanceolate, with more or less parallel sides, and a gradual tapering to the apices. Apices rounded. Striae are not visible with LM, fibulae number 12-15 in 10 µm.

Valves are lanceolate, with more or less parallel sides and a gradual tapering to the apices. Apices are rounded. Fibulae number about 12-15 in 10 µm. Striae are not visible with LM.
Compare
Nitzschia palea var. debilis is proportionately more slender and has finer fibulae, as distinct from the nominate taxon. This taxon also has a more rounded, rather than subcapitate headpole, as compared to N. palea var. palea and N. palea var. tenuirostris.
