Lange-Bertalot and Rumrich 2000 Category: Symmetrical biraphid
BASIONYM: Frustulia neomundana Lange-Bertalot and Rumrich 2000
Contributor: Carrie Graeff - May 2012
Length Range: 38.5-44.0 µm
Width Range: 7.5-8.0 µm
Striae in 10 µm: 31-32 at the center
The valves are linear-lanceolate with rostrate apices. The striae are parallel or slightly radiate at the valve center and parallel along the length of the valve. Areolae comprising the striae are round or oval. At the central area, the striae give the central area a relatively linear appearance, although one or a few areolae may extend onto the central area. Internally, the longitudinal ribs terminate well before both the helictoglossae. The longitudinal ribs are complete on the side of the valve to which the proximal raphe ends are deflected.
These records of F. neomundana are from the Hawaiian Islands. The species has reported from South America, but not from the continental U.S.
