Nitzschioid
Nitzschioid is one of nine morphology categories that we use to provide a visual aid in identification. These categories are artificial (not strictly evolutionary).
- Valves with bilateral symmetry (symmetric about a line)
- Valves usually symmetrical to both apical and transapical axes
- Raphid system well developed, and positioned near the valve margin
- Raphe is enclosed within a canal and may be raised onto a keel
