Fissure that joins the proximal raphe ends in some cymbelloid taxa. Instead of distinct termination of the proximal raphe ends, they are connected, internally by a fissure.

The intermissio joins the two raphe branches in Cymbella affinis, creating the appearance of a continuous raphe system (internally). Externally, the raphe branches are not joined.
