I waited a long time and finally - digital diatoms!

My first independent study during undergraduate days was spent trying to grow diatoms I found in a dystrophic pond in Storrs, Connecticut. Most were Eunotia and Pinnularia species, but all were empty frustules. Needless to say, they didn’t grow! There is something about diatoms that I find fascinating. Their fine structure is beautiful and I am glad to finally get a chance to share the images I have collected.
